There, we started with a mini tour of the Zipaquira old town, covering the Independence Square and the Principal Square, then a stop at a souvenir shop near the Principal Square. Lunch was not ‘free time, go where you like’ - we were taken to a specific place and didn’t have any choice about where we went. Similarly to a store where an emerald explanation was provided (standard day tour activity, and not too long to be fair). Salt Cathedral is impressive - Lagoon at Guatavita super interesting from a historical /cultural perspective learning about indigenous peoples and their customs, plant medicine etc, and a solid hike - not long, and we took our time, but you earn the view!”

Our guide was Jose Vasquez… we were one native Spanish speaker and one English, both passable but not perfect in the other language. He happily switched back and forth between languages as needed for us to both understand everything, which was very much appreciated. (Some guides previously have told us to pick one language only!)
